Change afoot, but why?
I've been a bit remiss of late as to when I post here. It used to be every Sunday, but one way or another change is upon me.
I seldom talk here about my work, but it seems appropriate today to mention that recently I've steered away from the full-on IT support I've assisted businesses with for about 12 years, and increased the time I spend on developing web sites, thus honouring my creative side.
Web site design and development has been the side-line theme for those many years, so it's not been hard to up the anti. In fact it's been a delight!
Part of it has involved building a sort of show case or two though. But more than that, test-beds as well. Although I don't have to excuse my lateness re. my blog, there has been resistance caused by simply many hours here designing and then publishing - even right down to a shopping cart [what to sell in it!?].
My main front door: http://www.icommunicate.co.nz
And the photo side: http://www.icommunicate.co.nz/photos/
... where you'll see many of these blog postings repeated [my mantra: type it only once I reckon, and use many times].
But I'm left with one very interesting thought: where is all this heading? You see I'm driven from the heart on all this, and it feels right.
Any thoughts you have would be very welcome thanks!
It's said the pen is mightier than the sword, and that a picture is worth a thousand words!
So folks on closing I only have one recent landscape photo for posting today:

Using Radar, I perceive that you probably want to do the icommunicate photo thing and have realised the blog is a double up and why do it. Well why do the blog.
I say do icommunicate/photo only.
Not sure how I would follow that, but I would certainly want to.

Where is all this heading? My question to the question is do you need to know. I think you yourslef may have said once something to the effect that it's in the doing of the whatever it is that you are led to do the next thing. I.e. Trust the process and the integrity of following one that works for you and the outcomes will be come apparent. As my sister would say - the years know what the days do not.
I dont think you should wuit the blog. You may use the same content in differing contexts but you will reach ( I imagine differing audiences) and many perspectives , must surely be a good thing.
Hi Kerry
Thanks for the thoughts.
The trick in life seems to visualise the end game, but NOT agonise over how it's going to happen.
And blogging is yet another way to write in a reflective way, that can often be self affirming.
I'm very affectionate towards my blog as it's bought me a handful of great new friends, but frankly I started it as a work need. IT is pretty wide ranging and so I took it on to simply find out what a blog was!
But after awhile it was feedback from family that kept me going, then the realisation of what we're doing right now: making new friends! And how a blog is probably the most dynamic way to say your piece and have it show in Google within 20 mins [if keywords are used and there is an honest matching of all such as subject and categories etc.
So I think I'll develop both, but resist posting the same content to both, as search engines are really onto this now, as spammers use it heaps.
Meanwhile thanks for the reminder to tune the radar!
Cheers

Kia ora Donald,
My personal opinion is that the blog has a place on it's own as well. It does not have to be confined to such definitions as a weekly post, as at times our "other" places can get in the way. More a question of quality to me than quanity. But I do know that your place is a definite favourite of mine, a place to stop in, share a kindred love and appreciation of this beautiful land, and always come away thinking, reflecting, and pondering. And often smiling broadly :)
I know in my own case I started my place as a way to keep in touch with my family and few friends back in the states. While I know a few of them do check in, they rarely, if ever, leave comments, so when I first began I almost quit as I thought I was just wasting my time. Then, to my great surprise, a small community of like minded people began to emerge, and sharing the love of the wild and its effects upon me with them, and viewing their experiences has become a very cool part of my life. And having met quite a few of those people, and spoken with you, it all holds true. I firmly believe we will one day spend some time in the hils e hoa! In the meantime, Rave On Like Minds! Kia kaha.
Cheers,
Robb
Dear Marg
You have a gift with words! In them I so often see wisdom.
Already some direction is coming out of the changes, and predictably they're not avenues I'd ever have imagined, but instead infused with serendipity.
In short it appears I'll be cementing a couple of new friendships and the glue will be doing some business together.
Then this business will probably lead to more, in the new realms!
Cheers

Dear Robb
Well written thoughts thanks as per your insightful thoughts and previous writings.
This blogging business does indeed seem blest with scenarios like you describe, and like you I've been quite amazed. I even get verbal feedback, from a few friends who don't want to publicly comment, which illustrates the rich diversity of how we humans can reach out.
Yes, the idea of a trip in the hills - a blogger's picnic, has taken root! So I am visualising it, and resisting the urge to wonder how it'll happen!
Cheers

Hi Donald,
I picked up a slightly different meaning from your post - not about whether you should keep writing the blog or not, but whether you should start making web design your major focus rather than IT support.
If this is what you meant when you asked "Where is this heading", then my thoughts are: if the change in direction brings in enough money, then go with it. I find it much more satisfying to create something rather than fix something.
If you want to sell things on your website, I'm happy to brainstorm a bit with you to come up with ideas.
Go with the heart!
Dear Shirley
Yes, your comment is a good summation thanks.
I agree it's much nicer to create than fix. Helping people by fixing things does have a reward though, and I'm fortunate that I can keep tapping into this, perhaps on a more selective basis, by sending the harder jobs away.
I hope your shift south has gone well and I imagine you'll be starting your courses any day now? I presume you also have followed your heart, to the deep south!
Cheers
Donald
